This summer we were lucky enough to get a camping spot at Cape Disappointment, an ocean front campground in Southwest Washington. People always joke, "was it disappointing?" because this place has such a funny name. (British trader John Meares named it “Cape Disappointment” when he mistakenly believed that the mouth of the Columbia River was only a bay). Our time there, and the weather, was far from disappointing! I sketched on the beach there, under bright blue skies, and then painted this watercolor when I got back home to the studio.
